4 Tips to make your proposal the most perfect moment of your life

 

1. Hire a photographer for your  surprise proposal

You won’t ever regret hiring a proposal photographer. Ok so I’m a little biased on this topic I’ll admit. In all seriousness.. having photographs to look back upon this day will be such a gift.  A photographer can advise you on the best location, help with the setup and coordination as well as help to keep you calm!  I also guarantee that you will get major props for doing so.

A great photographer can blend in so she/he won’t know that you are there. A great surprise proposal photographer can use long lens to give you privacy while still capturing this crazy important moment.

 

 

2. Pick the perfect location for your proposal

So many choices! Beach, park, home, restaurant. Wherever you choose to pop the question should feel comfortable to you. It should be special to you and you should feel 100% confident in the location.

Being a proposal photographer based in Melbourne Beach, the beach, of course, is a super popular choice with my clients. The very nature is both playful and romantic. You just can’t go wrong with the sand beneath your toes and the ocean breeze blowing in your hair. You can choose to go simple and sweet or go all out with roses and champagne. AND.. having a beach walk before dinner is great excuse to get down onto the beach.

The beach also can be ideal at either sunrise or sunset.

If you are having trouble deciding on a location think about the things that you like to do together. Fishing, hiking, walking on the beach? I’m more than happy to work with you to pick out the very best location.

3. Decide on your scene

What does this mean? Your goal with the proposal is to create the perfect moment. Think about what that means to you as a couple. Does that mean simple and sweet, you down on one knee and not another soul in sight? Perhaps this means is a trail of notes and rose petals leading to a bottle of champagne? OR perhaps the perfect proposal means secretly assembling all of her/his family members and bringing them out after the question has been asked! I just love photographing the reaction of family! You know your love. Would they want friends and family to share in the moment?

Let’s not kid ourselves. There is a ton of work involved in preparing for and executing the perfect proposal. Enlisting the help family is always a good idea (as long as they can keep the secret!). I often work with friends or parents to help organize the proposal.

The moment when she realizes that her whole family is walking down the beach! Yes.. she was that surprised! This surprise proposal was tricky to plan. Luckily Mom stepped in to help! It went off without a hitch! 

This couple opted for a sweet, quiet moment on the beach. Just them and his soccer ball! Oh.. and the little blue Tiffany box of course! You know what is best, trust your instincts.

 

4. Let your Furry Friends be the star of your surprise proposal!

Proposals should be about you and your partner. It is a lot of pressure and I know that nerves run high. But don’t forget to have fun with it. Plan your surprise proposal but don’t get too caught up in the nerves. I love when couples incorporate something unique just to them as part of the surprise. A lot of times that means your pups! After all our furry friends are just like family. They could be by your side OR they could be ones delivering the message!

This proposal had the assistance of three helpers. Each adorned with a chalkboard sign. So adorable! Imagine thinking you are just taking a walk to the park yet you are greeted with these pups! It was seriously one of the most fun surprise proposals that I had the honor of photographing.
